As there were no other groups around we must have had 45 mins to an hour in the Cenote by ourselves.įinally, after the Cenote we were dropped off by staff at our hotel. We had a short private tour here along with some photos and then were left to enjoy the Cenote. We then were picked up from reception and driven to the Cenote. Jaime gave us a great balance of legend, science and humour. Jaime, our cave tour guide then caught us up with helmets in hand for us and the kids and provided us with a guided cave tour. We also bumped into a very friendly spider monkey who was keen to show us around. In the wildlife sanctuary we saw all host of snakes, luckily these were captive. Reception staff were friendly and locker rental was free upon showing ID. Our taxi took us down a dirt road where we could see lots of wildlife in fairly dense jungle. We booked a taxi for this journey but you could easily walk along a (safer) dirt road adjacent to the 307 and pick up the (presumably free) shuttle from the entrance. It turns out the the site is 5km away from the 307 entrance. We were staying at the Bahia Principe and thought this was just a quick taxi ride. We booked the wildlife sanctuary, cave and Cenote tour. We booked on the day online and staff were very helpful via online chat. This year we got a lot of complaints about using the dollar. Just remember they are going to charge you so bring your haggling a game. There are also guys with monkey iguanas birds etc. The Mayan dancers are usually there and you can get some great pictures with them. Great place to get souvenirs and grab some lunch. There is a large market there with food drinks and vendors. If you go on the weekend i recommend you buy everything at the gate as it will save you from having to wait in long lines. I don't remember exact prices but it wasn't very expensive. You also have to pay for entrance into the state park and then entrance to the ruins. Its usually windy but if there is no wind there can be mosquitos.īe aware that if you drive you do have to pay for parking. Also this last time we went they discovered new gravesites and there was an active dig going on which was pretty cool.īring your walking shoes bug spray and sunscreen. Pretty sure the beach in the ruins is permanently closed but it is small and the beach in the state park is a short walk away. Every guide we have had has been very knowledgeable. We have visited 3 times so far and every time we learn something new. Highly recommend a guide so you can learn all the history. Its not a large area so you can see it all in one day. Walk the sandy beaches in Seaside and Cannon Beach and then grab saltwater taffy and other treats while shopping these seaside towns.There is no reason to not see these ruins if you're in Tulum. A stay in the scenic town of Astoria on the Washington border will allow you to explore the western edge of the Lewis and Clark trail, with views of the Columbia River and the Pacific. Go fly a kite on the beach in Lincoln City, kite capital of the world.The Northern Oregon Coast offers a relaxing way to enjoy the region. Head up to Newport for a view of the state’s second-tallest lighthouse and shopping in this seaside town popular with vacationers for the last century. Take the kids and visit the Sea Lion Caves near Florence, the world’s largest. And don’t forget to bring your fishing gear – you’ll want to cast for salmon and other Pacific Northwest fish at Gold Beach, one of the region’s top fishing spots.The Central Oregon Coast is a great place for fishing, clamming, hiking, golfing and other outdoor activities. Antique shoppers will want to explore old town Bandon while golfers hit the links at the world-renowned Bandon Dunes golf course. ![]() If you stay in the Bay Area, go whale watching at Coos Bay or explore the region on a bike or a hike along the coastline. The Southern Oregon coast is home to isolated beaches, rugged cliffs with breathtaking views of the Pacific and quaint seaside towns.
